“We ordered the Safe Rx bottles after a child of one of our patients ingested a controlled medication that was in a regular pill bottle in the patient’s purse. It was a terrifying ordeal for the family and one we hope to never repeat. We now offer all of our patients on controlled medications a Safe Rx bottle at no cost. Keeping children safe is a priority and we believe Safe Rx bottles protect kids.”

Wyoming has the highest suicide rate in the United States, double the national average. Wyoming prioritizes reducing access to lethal means as a suicide prevention strategy. Research shows that most people end their lives with firearms, suffocation, and intentional overdose. Although the person attempting suicide may know the combo to their locking pill bottle, the fact that it adds an extra step to open the bottle means a small delay to allow time for a second thought. This second thought can save their life. By distributing these pill bottles, we hope that they will either prevent access to lethal pills or provide a barrier at a time of crisis.

We're purchasing these bottles as giveaway items for our community outreach and overdose awareness events. We have an active community coalition that is working across prevention, education, treatment, and recovery to address the root causes of substance abuse.
